Antique 1900's Beaubier House Brandon Manitoba Gravy Boat?
I am no expert in this area but I believe that this 7 3/4" saucer shaped hotel china piece is a gravy boat saucer. It bears the crest of the Beaubier House Brandon Manitoba and is maker marked in black on the reverse DUNN BENNETT'S PATENT UNCHIPPABLE SURFACE BURSLEM,ENGLAND (who manufactured and supplied hotels, cafe's - ships with hotel china circa 1914) - it also has some stamped in details from the manufacturing process on the back. While there is no really noticable damage visible to the front - there is an area of chipping on the reverse (center top when viewed) only visible from the back. Good condition for it's age and intended use.
The Beaubier House dated to 1893 and was of the first boarding houses in Brandon with 37 rooms for the weary traveller and a fine dining room. History was not kind to this hotel in later years! I have never seen this example before only a few coffee cups with their saucers so i suspect this piece is not commonly found these days - very nice look to it!. .
