Job Title: Truck Driver (Class 3A/1A)

Position Type: Full-Time; Seasonal

Wage: Dependent on Experience and Performance

Reports to: Construction Project Manager; Snow Division, Operations Manager

Purpose: Our Truck Drivers are responsible for the safe and efficient operations of a combination of vehicles, including trucks with trailers equipped with air brakes. Drivers will effectively haul and deliver company tools, equipment, and materials to and from job sites and any other locations as required. This will include hauling snow in the winter months.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Load, haul and deliver any tools, equipment and materials to job sites as required
  • Wrap and tarp products/materials for delivery
  • Properly strap and secure all loaded cargo
  • Meet delivery schedules
  • Ability to dump loads and clean out the box of the truck
  • Complete all required daily paperwork, including but not limited to DOT Truck Logs (Big Road), pre/post-trip inspection forms, HIT lists, working alone forms, etc.
  • Comply with company and government regulations and rules
  • Always maintain open lines of communication with the Artillery Manager and Office Staff
  • Daily vehicle inspections and walkarounds
  • Ensure trucks are weighted properly to avoid going over the weight limits
  • Maintain and fuel trucks daily
  • Hooking up/unhooking, backing up and maintaining truck trailers (pintle hitch, super b and end dump trucks)
  • Perform basic truck maintenance, i.e. Fluid top-ups, truck greasing, etc.
  • Perform emergency repairs such as patching tires, etc., when needed
  • Report defects, accidents, or violations
  • Operate Hook Lift System (Hydraulic and Air Systems)
  • Other duties as required

 

Qualification Requirements:

  • Valid Class 1 Manitoba Drivers License required
  • Trucking school diploma, an asset
  • Able to operate Standard 18-speed trucks
  • Clean Drivers Abstract: No At-Fault Claims in the past three years
  • Strong understanding of legislated requirements for hauling and heavy trucks

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum five years of proven driving experience
  • Ability to work drive long hours and travel regularly
  • Knowledge of safety skills and requirements for Safe Work
  • Physically fit to perform all duties required
  • Shows excellent attention to detail and performs quality work
  • Can work with multiple different personality types
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Takes direction well and follows through on all job tasks
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions, troubleshoot equipment and find new routes when needed

Physical Conditions:

The duties of the Truck Driver are carried out primarily in an outdoor setting.

  • Uses hands, arms, and shoulders when using various types of equipment (daily).
  • Lifts and/or moves up to 80 lbs. (occasionally).
  • Ability to cross on uneven ground
  • Ability to work outside for long periods of time

Psychological/Stress Conditions:

The Truck Drivers position workload and environment do not generally increase employees' emotional or stress levels.

  • Interruptions and requests from multiple areas (daily).
  • Multitasking (daily).
  • Repetitive movements
  • Job demands versus time constraints (daily).
  • Periods of intense concentration when meeting deadlines and during peak periods.

 

Work Conditions:

The Truck Driver works independently and in a team environment.

  • Works in a shared and consultative manner with other employees (daily).
  • Wide variety of tasks requiring the ability to manage multiple unrelated projects and make independent decisions (daily).
  • Self-motivated and quality-driven to perform independent projects (daily).
