Call to Artists - Community Gallery Exhibition

 Saturday, July 24 (Today) Other

For Immediate Release

Brandon, MB, July 5, 2021 - The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba announces Beauty is the Wanted Feature Here, an invitation to creative participation with the exhibition A Good, Long Look by Mohawk artist Shelley Niro. The general public is encouraged to get inspired by Niro?s work and explore how making art can be an act of care for those we love. In her Chiquita series, Niro inserts a beloved old photograph of her late mother into the centre of a rose. A sort of rite, Niro ?wanted to create this environment for her... this beautiful setting.? By blending personal photos with botanical images, both elements take on a new meaning.

The artwork will be presented in the Community Gallery until August 21, and also  as a digital collection following the exhibition. The public is welcome to submit contributions until July 31. The AGSM will offer printing up to 11 by 17 inches for digital submissions, and the AGSM will provide printing services for local artists who may need copies of photographs or images reproduced for paper collage projects. Email any digital source material to summerprograms@agsm.ca to arrange a contactless pickup of material. More information and the link to the submission form is available on the AGSM website at https://agsm.ca/beauty-wanted-feature-here.

The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba is located at 710 Rosser Avenue, and can be accessed either from the Town Centre parkade, or from the first floor of the Town Centre Mall through the elevators near the library.
