Youth Support Worker - Safe Space/ Overnight Lod

As a Youth Support Worker your role at the Youth Safe Lodge, will involve providing support, guidance, and supervision to young people accessing the drop-in and shelter space by creating a safe and welcoming environment, and assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Lodge. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of youth issues, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to empowering and advocating for young people in need.   • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor?s degree in social work or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working with youth in a shelter, residential, or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of youth development principles, trauma-informed care, and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility to work evening, overnight, and weekend shifts as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Training in non-violent crisis intervention or de-escalation techniques.
  • Familiarity with local community resources and support services for youth.
  • Lived experience or cultural competency working with diverse populations, including, Indigenous youth, LGBTQ+ youth, and youth from marginalized backgrounds.

Working in a 24-hour residential space offers a unique opportunity to provide continuous support and care to individuals in need, ensuring their safety, well-being, and comfort around the clock. It requires dedication, flexibility, and compassion to create a nurturing environment where residents feel supported and empowered, regardless of the hour. Rotating shifts are integral to maintaining consistent coverage and ensuring that residents receive the support they need at all times, requiring adaptability and teamwork among staff members.
