What do people think? Maybe try a 2 weeks mandated masks in Brandon public places while we have these covid outbreaks? Thoughts?
One thing I’ll say is that without it being mandated there’s definitely been a big and noticeable uptick in people wearing. I think a lot of folks have been self-conscious about how they look or sound when wearing one and I’m confident they’ll be on board as more and more folks wear them and the behaviour continues to normalize. I think they're in the minority but still too many ppl pretending they’re docs to feed their confirmation bias on this. Masks aren’t a magic forcefield but they lower the percentages and who in the right mind wouldn’t want to do that with a virus that’s proven many times over to be devastating when it reaches a caseload tipping point where the medical system can’t keep up?
Right now the path seems to more be through corporates leading the way. Walmart mandating it is going to have the effect of normalizing wearing that much more (your turn Loblaw, Sobeys, Canadian Tire Corp).
Examples of places mandating aren’t going to go down and it could very well get to the point where mask rebels will have no choice but to mask up if they want to make use of most common businesses or stay home... either of which works just fine.
Locally it was a big step seeing that the Rotary Book Sale has made them mandatory next month. To help add to the tide, I’d like to see the city at least mandate masks inside city facilities for all except those with legitimate verifiable medical reasons.
