There was a very tall gentlemen who did electrical work for me a couple of years ago. Would anyone know what his name is and where I can find him? I would like him to do some electrical work for me.

But to the OP good and cheap/affordable generally don't go hand in hand. You normally get what you pay for, especially in trades. I don't know I think I would go with a known reputable electrican rather than a cheap one or a random guy on eBrandon who has some free time on his hands.  
 
If it was me I'd try Wood Electric, Prairie Electric or Wheat City Electric. However I'm sure there are lots of other great companies and electricans out there.

As for the guy with the free time comment. I know a couple retired electricians that just work for a bit of cash on the side. Still valid tradesmen. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. It’s worth checking out all your options sometimes. Could save a few bucks.

And secondly if they are retired make sure they are still insured and have proper certifications etc. be shame to try and save a couple bucks and have your house burn down. But hey you do what ya gotta do to save a buck.

on the side for cash is not illegal, but it has to be declared to the revenue. That is where it becomes a punishable offence. Non payment of taxes, PST/GST.  
The biggest problem with a cash job is usually lack of a receipt and no recourse if the job is botched.

Ya cause every person that works on the side for cash claims it as income. I would bet very few to none do. I own a company and have had to get rid of a few for this mostly because they use all my parts and tools to do their "side job". I suppose you think all the cash tips servers receive get claimed as well.

Literally every trades guy/gal has done a side job or two in their days. If you're a trades person and say you've never done a job for cash I'd say you're a liar.

How many times do people actually allow the proper trade person to do it? When you call about getting something fixed to you actually ask to see there trade qualifications. I dont know how many places use plumbers to install ac when it should be a hvac guy do you actually know if you have someone who is working on your car is actually a mechanic

Yes , credentials are required.  
 
Is hogie87 a qualified HVAC TECH?  
 
Plumbers are qualified to install A/C units, gas furnaces, duct, voltage..list goes on. It goes with our ticket.

What is the qualification required to install an AC unit? What's the difference between an HVAC tech and a plumber?

Plumbers install, repair and maintain plumbing fixtures and systems such as water, hydronic, drain, waste and vent (DWV), low pressure steam, residential fire, chemical, and irrigation. They also install specialized systems such as medical gas, process piping, compressed air, water conditioners, fuel piping, sewage and water treatment, and storage and flow equipment  
 
Hvac/refrigetion  
Refrigeration and air conditioning mechanics install and service residential, commercial, industrial and institutional heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration units and systems. They lay out reference points for installation, assemble and install components, install wiring to connect components to an electric power supply, and calibrate related controls.

The one major difference with AC installs is you are required in Manitoba (and other provinces), you must be certified to purchase and/or handle (work-on) any new or used refrigeration, air conditioning parts, refrigerant or equipment attached to the closed refrigerant loop. You must hold a valid MOPIA ticket.

So then by that definition how is plumber certified to install AC as part of their ticket? It seems that's what an HVAC technician is certified to do. To the person that said plumbers are certified to install air-conditioning is that training that you recieve at school or on the job? Again I'm very curious because I've always thought to call a plumber to get my A/C looked at but now it would appear that might not be the best solution.  
 
Also "BigMac" first of all all of your posts that I've ever read come across pretty aggressively. That's too bad.  
 
Just because you've owned your own business for 25 years doesn't mean you couldn't do a side job. A side job (as I'm sure you're very aware) is a job that's done off the books, for cash, outside of working at or for your regular business. If you're telling me you've never done a job for a friend or family member, off the books, for cash to help them out then I guess good on you for sticking ridged to the tax laws.

Read the article you posted and all the typos. Not sure of what shady website you got that from. Also, plumbers have a gas ticket and an electrical endorsement for equipment and appliances  
 
Plumbers learn A/C in school and with whatever company that deals with refrigeration systems. You can work on them, service and install providing a MOPIA Certification.
