with my own old 8mm Samsung. Plugged the cam into a hard drive Panasonic recorder/burner. Hit PLAY on the camera, and RECORD on the HDD recorder. You can record the segments you only want or edit as you go, if you have that feature on the recorder device. SAVE and finalize & burn to DVD. Take the DVD and put in a computer. Access the video files and upload to the online storage so the family can view them.
Did not lose much quality.
There are ways to use 8mm player and run into a PC also if you have the good software and video card, but rendering takes a long time and the output file might be massive.
This may be old school, but works good. I am in the process of doing old recordings before they tarnish.
