cdnchk64 said "Bought a 4pc kitchen appliance set from (uphill) April /17 with a 4 year extended warranty which they gladly took the money for their "Customer Care" service..
So the fridge died Nov/20 forgot I had warranty called out service guy paid the $200 for him which im fine with. Fridge died again. Freon leak twice. Now I have laundry list of what it needs..Fine order it. waiting , waiting ,waiting..hmmm no "customer care"? so called them..parts coming ..that was 2nd week of Dec..there goes Xmas supper..Can I get a replacement or used fridge to tie me over...No. Im living with a bar fridge the size of a shoe box. My question to Brandon, is this acceptable to you and would you shop at this (uphill) store? Knowing they don't follow up or care about their "customer care" warranty? Can you live without a fridge for 3 months or longer? "
I feel your frustration, but I have a couple of constructive comments here.
1) Uphill can mean quite a few different furniture retailers. I thought of one, then realized it doesn't matter. All furniture/appliance stores offer extended warranty and there are quite a few of them in the North of Brandon.
2) You have a personal choice whether to accept going with extended or not and to understand the terms and conditions. I hope it was explained to you, as that should be mandatory for businesses to do. Nobody forces your hand. It's one of those decisions you alone must make.
3) You should know where your extended warranties are or who they are if you choose to go with them, and their expiry dates, contact numbers, etc. The store will only refer you to their number.
4) Extended Warranty Companies through furniture/appliance places are 3rd party and most places go with one or 3 big ones (global). Yes, the retailer has endorsed them, but you're at the mercy of these 3rd party places. The retailer's hands are tied once you've signed an extended 3rd party contract. It's the warranty company who lines things up and you have direct dealing with.
5) You can picket the store, but it will end up being useless. All places in this industry align themselves with whatever extended warranty place they've aligned with. You are at the mercy of the warranty place after a certain amount of time when the manufacturer one runs out.
6) Yes, there has been a supply chain issue with a global pandemic. I have actually had a positive experience with some extended warranties (for $$$) things, but am aware it's really between you now and said 3rd party. They then line up a local repair place with you directly who order the parts and will make an appointment when ready. That's been my experience.
I feel awful you've had to go through this, but I think bad mouthing the store might be uneventful as they are all aligned with global warranty companies and it could be hard to get parts right now.
PS: Keep a log of all of your correspondence, time of calls, requests, whom you spoke to, etc.
and I do hope this gets fixed for you - sounds like a long time.
