Just to clarify, from the link below:
"It is against the law to ride on sidewalks unless the diameter of your rear wheel is 410 millimetres (16 inches) or less." https://www.mpi.mb.ca/Pages/cycling-101.aspx
Agree that a further built out path system would go a long way. Have been some steps toward this between the connection being built along Pacific Ave and the "share the road" stuff thats been setup, but still a pretty disjoint system in most cases if one wants to go beyond recreational stuff and use the path system to get from one part of the city to another.
#1 on my blue-sky-world wish list is a way to complete a link from 18th St just North of the Keystone to the Daly crossing where the new bridges will have the wider crossing just like the 1st St bridges. Easier said than done when considering boulevard width and adjoining properties along the way, but would sure make a world of difference to have a full length of path all the way along 18th from Mall to Corral/Discovery Centre area!
Good news is that expanding the system is def on the radar. Some info on future trail system on Page 57 of the Rec Master Plan at this link... including reference to "Develop an active transportation plan to identify ways to create a city wide network of trails linking greenspaces and communities" Some more specific info in the 2015 Greenspace Master Plan starting on Page 48 at this link.
