Canada has in fact stopped flights from Pakistan and India for 30 days in lieu of rising cases and a new mutation: https://globalnews.ca/news/7781588/canada-travel-ban-covid-variant-india/amp/
The B.1.617 variant has been detected already in Canada with the story mentioning both BC and Alberta.
In addition to this new flight ban, we have had and do have extensive travel and border restrictions in place as outlined at the link below: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/service-delivery/coronavirus/travel-restrictions.html
The best news of all is that there's been no news to date of a variant that doesn't respond to vaccines. Important to note from the article that 1.8% of cases in the country come from travel. Not a reason to take it lightly so much as to remember that what we do within our borders, provinces and communities to contain spread and follow through with a vaccine program is going to make the biggest difference as far as getting our own house in order while other nations get theirs in order. In this case the flight ban is said to "give health officials time to sequence and better understand the variant first detected in India."
