I accept that old age security programs are needed and are beneficial for many people.
However I also accepted early on that these programs would disappear by the time I reached retirement so I started to save at 16 for my old age.
I worry that many young people see these programs delivered to seniors now and then themselves are failing to make their own necessary provisions using the tools available which may not have been around for previous generations because they mistakenly believe that the government will look after them in the future.
The last article I read reported that Canada’s current debt load leaves every man, woman and child $28,000 in the red. This is unsustainable in the long term.
