I'm researching credit cards and bonus/benefits.  
 
To get it out of the way, the credit card isn't for Christmas credit . My current CC is expiring soon and statements are paid off monthly. I do use it frequently, but for ease with online shopping and such.  
 
Looking for low interest rates first of course, not necessarily travel benefits at this time but would like to hear from seasoned cc researchers as to what might be a solid one to look at. I understand some have different benefits.  
 
I bank with one of the big 5 banking institutions, but willing to look outside the box for a good CC or might remain with my financial institution (RBC) if it's beneficial.

your credit card off each month, yet are concerned about interest rates. If you pay your card off each month on time, interest rates should not matter.  
 
Generally the lower the interest rates, the less other benefits are available.  
I use 3 cards and each has its purpose and or benefit.  
one has 4% cash back on gas and groceries, 2% on pharmacy purchases and utility bill payments and 1% on other purchases. Their is also travel insurance and purchase warranty benefits.  
The next card has no foreign exchange fees, you pay only the exchange rate with no extra fee on top, (to get an idea how much that fee can be is check with your back the difference in buying and selling a foreign currency) plus 1% cash back.  
The 3rd card has 2% cash back on 2 customer chosen categories, I use restaurants and reoccurring bill payments.  
My experience has been, you are better with cash back rather than points towards some overpriced catalog items.

I do pay the balance in a timely manner so maybe the cash backs and benefits don't go hand in hand with a lower interest rate. In other words, one can't have it all.  
 
I'm stunned with all of the options out there these days.

I deal with RBC but haven't used my Visa card in years. Takes forever to get enough Reward Points to purchase anything (usually did Rona gift cards).  
 
Threw out my American Express decades ago. No value there.  
 
I strictly use a President Choice Mastercard for everything, Including monthly bills like Xplornet, Shaw, Insurance, Autopac, etc. For gas use PC Optimum card and PC Mastercard and get $.09 off per liter price at the pump. All added up pays for most of my groceries every month.

You can build credit if you allow them to put money in separate account for you (deducted monthly from Visa account). There is also a "round up" option. $1, $2 or $5, that goes into a separate account. You can add to spendable anytime, or save & $AVE!  
 
I have enjoyed this for 5 years. I linked it to my free Tangerine account. (Simpli is free also) and now I have never paid a bank fee since.
