I am curious as to how others feel about having to Pay for rapid testing from a Pharmacist for participating in school sports? My community charges $40 a test. I have seen $20 in Brandon. The schools are now handing out free kits.. but school sports are not i:ncluded. At least, not that I am aware of.

Sports are a privilege. Pay up if you want to have that luxury.

Schools have to hand them out for free because children do have a right to their education.  
Recreational activities are not a right, along with many other activities people seem to think they have the right to.  
 
It’s really is too bad that the cost of the tests is so high in some places though. It’s a real deterrent and is only feeding the problem of people trying to bend the rules. There does need to be some balance as the testing is a requirement placed on us, but the cost shouldn’t be so high as to exclude certain people.  
 
Vaccinations are free though, so going that route to be able to avoid the regular testing would be a good option.

Talk to those who have to pay for testing to be able to work and then complain about youth sports.

Do not get me wrong, sports are great and help teach kids many things, like team work buuuuuuut with the price of sports, it is a big luxury to a ton of people that cannot afford it.  
 
Being low-income, back in the day I looked into getting my son into sports, but the prices were just too much (register, equipment, uniform, travel to practice and games without owning a vehicle).  
 
Also, where can you get rapid tests in Brandon for $20? Every place I have checked it has been $40+

Thank you for you reply. It is literally called Rapid Test Brandon and they are normally $40 but offer them for $20 for youth sports.

Why do you need a test to work? If you are vaccinated you don't need to test unless symptomatic, correct? Vaccinations are free to Manitobans. Huh?

I too am confused? Are these tests required because the person is choosing not to be vaccinated?  
 
My child is in sports and we haven’t had to get any rapid tests.  
 
If it is because a person is choosing to not be vaccinated and then wants to play sports (or go to work as in the other post) but then complaining of the cost of rapid tests - well that is just opening a whole can of worms lol

Thank you for your feedback. You are correct Covid vaccinations are free in Manitoba The rapid testing I am referring to, is for those who are not vaccinated. Some employers require regular testing, some provide kits, or leave it up to the employee to pay for. As for students in school system rapid testing is now provided by the province to any or all students 11 years and under as they were only eligible most recently for vaccination. 12 and older will get free kits on the basis of Covid case loads in the schools. These tests do not have to be done by a Pharmacist. However if you are a part of a sports team at the same school and unvaccinated you are required to get rapid testing done by a pharmacist to attend practice and games. Some of these tests costs are as high as $40 each time.

Complaining that you have to pay for rapid tests because you have chosen to be unvaccinated is like complaining that you have to pay a fine for texting and driving.  
 
It sucks they are so expensive but getting vaccinated is free.

Very good of them. Support local sports.  
 
By the way many places charge $60 or more. Prices vary from province to province. City to city. Just like anything else.  
 
As to at home tests they are for your own benefit. How could some where take that as prove? Look at parents non vaccinated caught sneaking in back doors to watch kids play.  
 
As above said get vaccinated as it is free.
