Hi. I used to hold yard sales all the time bit I have not had one in about ten years.  
 
I am registered for the city wide sale May 28th.  
Please offer tips as I don't really attend any.  
 
How much do I charge for CDs?  
Cookbooks?  
Puzzles?  
Dishes?  
Mugs?  
 
What is not worth trying to sell at all?  
What is a hot ticket item?  
 
I'm not really trying to make money. I'm trying to clean up unwanted items but I sure don't want to get screwed.

Just a word of advice, if you want to have your yard sale start at 9, post it for 10 because no matter if you say no early birds please there is always people who show up an hour early.

I think cds can be as cheap as 3 for a dollar at the thrift store.  
I saw mugs for .29 at the thrift this week too.  
Plates are dependent on how nice. I would expect to pay half of what they are on the cheapest sale.  
Pricing at some thrift stores or garage sales has got totally out ridiculous. I can buy a Canada Shirt at Dollarama, yet the Superthrift had it for $9.99. Same with puzzles that are $1.50 new at Dollartree are $1.99 at Superthrift used! I think people pricing at yard sales need to consider sale/clearance prices. I can often find new toys on Walmart or Winners clearance cheaper than garage sale or definitely Value Villiage.  
People who yard sale are very price conscious and the lower price, the better, if you really want to get rid of stuff.  
I pull up to a sale look at 2 items if the prices are stupid high, I move onto the next one.

If you just want to declutter make few dollars. Price to sell . I never price anything under a loonie $1.00 makes giving change easier. Try pricing items 2 for $$  
Make deals , take reasonable offers.  
 
Had brothers CDS in 2 sales only sold few 4$ each - second sale priced $2 sold them all  
 
Mugs - 2 for $1.00  
Dishes depending on what they are  
Cookbooks usually $1.00 can buy them $2.00 at Rotary  
Puzzles and games 2 for $1.00  
 
You never really know what hot items really depends on what the person is looking for.  
 
My rule if it’s in the sale I no longer want it - so sell make some extra cash or it gets donated .  
Nothing goes back in the house.

Sadly I don't set the hours. The city does and puts it on a map. So avoiding early birds could be tricky. But I'll set up in the backyard and won't set out the signs till the very end. I will try that! But yes early birds I now remember are very frustrating when you are setting up. Don't be that person, it's stressful enough without you poking your nose in.  
 
I never thought of the "under a dollar/change" thing. Thanks, I will just donate my smaller items or group stuff.  
 
Do people buy clothes? I don't recall getting rid of much.
