vegimite said "what it needed was a roundabout at the airport junction, 70kmph from there to Brandon, then remove the temporary access. Motorists are hardly going to lose more than a few seconds in that stretch.
The hard shoulder going North is an emergency lane and not to be used for passing vehicles that are waiting to turn,( it is an offence under the highways act) yes it is inconvenient to have to slow down or even stop, but again is a few seconds so important.
The biggest problem is the impatience of drivers and you cannot fix stupid. "
Just to clarify, it is not an offence under the HTA to pass a vehicle on the right if the vehicle in front is turning left. I'm not saying that this section of the highway is not dangerous, it is, and just a matter of time before there is a rear end accident resulting in death or injury. The highways department needs to address this asap. For the life of me I can't understand how they would get a building permit without putting a plan in place about a turning lane.
