Also thought it did the job quite well, zero issue trusting that the data was being used for the right purpose. Seemed to be a lightning rod largely for the 10% club who are awkwardly if loudly grasping at straws on social media to retroactively claim false wins on stuff like this, vaccines and past restrictions rather than accept that they put us all at risk by fighting measures that have been (and for all we know might one day again still be) in place to keep us and our medical system safe.
These measures are ending for the same reasons they’ve gradually ended in most countries as we transition to a new sort of reality over these last several months. We’ve thankfully progressed to a different phase of the COVID response thanks to the efforts of the vast majority to keep each other and our medical system safe. You may have seen this past week just before our travel announce up here the USA President declaring that despite COVID continuing to be a problem, the pandemic itself being over (not that everyone has necessarily agreed with that statement). Taking his timing into account, I don’t think he’s got time to pay attention to a challenge in little old Canada I was more interested when you Google Brian Peckford to find who he’s been in alignment with in recent years on this topic. Results include: -PPC's Maxime Bernier. Same Bernier who had to be arrested for not following Manitoba pandemic restrictions. Our restrictions have since been ruled in court in this province to have not violated Charter Rights. -Same group behind the legal challenge in Manitoba where it was ruled that Charter Rights weren’t violated here: https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6217925 -well-featured by far-right-ish figures Peterson and Levant -referred to as an “influencer” with the Convoy which included organizers Bauder, Lich, Dichter, Barber, etc. Same convoy that polls continually showed had support of only a minority of Canadians. I think organizers’ trial next year is the one a lot of folks will be paying attention to: https://globalnews.ca/news/9094544/tamara-lich-chris-barber-trial-freedom-convoy-charges/amp/ The link below in a lengthy and factual way goes into detail on misinformation being spread regarding the challenge the prev poster is referring to, which seems to be trying its darnedest to come away claiming a perceived “win”: https://pressprogress.ca/right-wing-sources-are-spreading-misinformation-about-a-court-battle-over-canadas-vaccine-mandates/ For those that have tried to discredit factual sources and over-simplified the world into media collectively being out to get the political “right” in order to help out the “left,” be sure to scroll down at the same link to see the hard hitting way they’ve come at the PM on two other totally separate topics. They call it like they see it, with a focus on the kinds of facts that are so critical as part of the role media plays in a democracy. These continued efforts to try to retroactively undercut measures taken make a lot of noise but have done nothing I've seen to change the fact that should we see a future pandemic emergency (which hopefully we never do), there are circumstances where an appropriate level of measures may be necessary to respond to the threat and keep each other safe. So many of us are thankful for the strength of response in our best interests and cant begin to imagine how much worse a pandemic without these mandates would've turned out to be.
