How can we as citizens in our city deal with homes that are empty and hazards to everyone in area.  
At present the house at 411 8th. st. sits empty with street people and other transient's wandering in and out of home and garage! I am waiting for police to look into it yet inside front door is open and garage side door is open every day there is foot traffic with many people with back packs or shopping carts in and out of fence in back ally. Any ideas people?

That’s scary!! It will be a crack house for sure! Someone needs to do something about it before someone gets hurt or worse!

The City has By-laws about vacant and derelict buildings. Call them to report your concerns so thye can allocate the right personnel to follow up with the property owner(s).

We have 2 empty houses on our block , but fortunately both are now boarded up. Though I suspect that they would be demolished in any other area of the city to make way for something bigger, I have doubts in this case due to proximity to downtown. Getting some Detroit vibes.

Nobody wants to see homes being boarded up. It's crazy to think that while the City is boarding up homes, there are people wandering the wintery streets with no place to call home.

As clarification the city does not board up homes usually it is owners who find it necessary to secure properties due to vandals or as stated above street people or transients who feel that they can break into private property that seem or are unoccupied. Many of these people are in a position in life of this due to many reasons some of which i:nclude mental health, addictions or other personnel troubles. Yes mental health is a serious concern, yes addictions are a concern but some of these are issues of the persons own making. Many of us have endured struggles in our lives and how we deal with these vary from rational thought, alcohol, drugs or many other means. My point of article is NO ONE has the right to trespass on privately owned property and as trespassing has its downfall with damage or total destruction of property due to having no vested interest in property or simply do not care.

House at 336 6th. st. is the old Tintern house and I believe it is a historical building as was one of the cities founding people Beechan Trotter there is some info available on Daly House website and have read few other articles about house.

These old death traps need to go! Way too much money to refurbish, and even then most wouldn't pass today's standards. At what point do we acknowledge that a building has lived out it's useful life? Neighborhood renewal needs to start somewhere because the only thing this status quo has led to is unsafe buildings and run down areas.
