I am going on a Sunwing vacation soon and am finding it hard to find a bag that meets their size limitations for the personal item. Can anyone tell me how stringent they are on the guidelines? Is it actually smaller than the personal sizing for WestJet? TIA

As far as a personal item, they are pretty stringent with the size. If it is too big, they will make you check the item and charge you a checked bag fee.

We are also heading out in a week on Sunwing. My take on the personal size item is that is would be something like a small briefcase or a laptop bag. But if you are trying to take something bigger like a filled backpack, they will ding you $25 for that, as they are treating it like carry on luggage.  
 
It's all about profit. People don't trust checking in luggage because they get lost, so the airline makes it free to check in the luggage but charge you to carry on a small suitcase.

And it wasn't as bad as some might think. If you stow it overhead, they might charge you. If it fits under the seat in front of your feet, that's a freebie. That wa s how it worked for us.

I just got back from Cuba yesterday with Sunwing. Your personal item has to be fairly small…. Think purse, small backpack (like kid size basically), laptop bag… etc. It has to fit under the seat or they will charge you $25 to put overhead. The size on the website is a little inaccurate though. Mine was slightly bigger and I noticed people had ones bigger than mine… but still small enough to go under the seat. I didn’t see them measure.  
 
On a side note our trip was amazing and there were no travel issues. We couldn’t have asked it to go any smoother. It was one of the best trips I’ve ever taken. Have a great trip !! (Feel free to DM if you have any other questions)

it's great to hear from someone that had a great trip, and experience. There are lots of good stories, but they don't make the news.

We also just got back on Monday from a Sunwing vacation - no issues at all with flights etc. I took a large purse that could fit my laptop in it and wasn’t charged, honestly I think it all depends on who checks you in as they didn’t even look at our personal item just slapped a sticker on it

If the bag exceeds their size parameters, it gets checked. Easy.
