Looking for an individual or company to adjust a residential overhead door. The overhead door starts to close then stops, this seems to happen when it is cold outside. I have spoken to one company and was shocked to hear the initial quote.

Does it have the eye sensors?  
Check that they are both light, if not they are either out of line or broken wire

Depending on age or make, some have adjustments for sensitivity, meaning during certain times of the year it may take slightly more power to raise or lower the door. So there is an adjustment on the opener. Otherwise the spring may need adjusting which is somewhat dangerous, or the door may not be operating square to the opening. The manual should describe all of this, if you don't have one, you could probably find it on the internet. Or as you requested, hire someone that knows.

The eyes are inline as this seems to happens when it is cold outside.

Universal Doors are your best bet. Very helpful people.

With a commercial door. I ended up putting a little piece of 1/2 plywood behind the eyes to move them inside the garage just that little bit more. Door has worked great ever since. No guarantee this will work but it solved the issue in my case.

After the door goes up does the light flash?  
If so count the flashes, it’s telling you a code.

Probably the sensitivity on the opener needs a small adjustment so it's less sensitive. Your door opener can sense if something is being hit by the door and will reverse for safety. The door is stiffer in the cold and the door thinks something is being hit. Check your make and model on the opener and do a google search for sensitivity adjustment. This adjustment is very simple. The adjustment will be on the back or side and just needs a slotted screwdriver.

I just had the same problem with mine. With mine I have a strip of rubber on the floor where the door stripping goes into. If there is any ice on the door rubber strip mine froze to the bottom. After raising the door and backing out the door would only close so far then back up. So now I lift the door just a hair to get it off the frozen part and so far that helped. Also make sure the sensor eyes are clean and the sensor lights are bright.
