Private vocational vs Public Post-secondary
Mar 14 at 12:14 PM
Although you asked for feedback from an employer, allow me a minute to talk about future career and educational prospects. While I'm sure a certificate or diploma from a private vocational college, like the Learning Company, will prepare you for immediate employment, it will not be recognized by any public post-secondary institutions like ACC or Brandon University. So, if person is certain that they want to spend their entire career as being an accounts receivable clerk or a health care aide, that's great, But, if a person was considering, in the future, moving up in an organization, they may need further education. (Example: health care aide to LPN, or even RN, or accounting clerk to finance manager.) In that case, it is best to take your initial education from a public post-secondary institution as they will continue to give you credit for the courses you previously took from them.
Also, because the private vocational colleges are only certified in Manitoba, if you are considering moving out of province, other provinces are under no obligation to recognize your certificate or diploma. However, there is agreements between public post-secondary colleges and universities to recognize and give credit as much as possible.
Hope this extra info helps with your decision.
