I am interested in getting my firearm license. I have had it in other countries but never in Canada. Is there a way I can just do a test and get it? Or do I need to go through the whole course? Or? Thanks

I got my PAL with wolverine and it was simple enough but that was 15 years ago.

You need to take the Canadian Firearm Safety Course. (The exception is if you took the Manitoba Hunter Education Course prior to 1994, then you may be able to be 'grandfathered' in without taking the newer course.)

You used to be able to just challenge the test, but that changed about 8 years back. Now you must take the course. As mentioned, Jo-Brook is in town and is reasonably priced. There are two levels of course, one for non-restricted and the other for restricted. Since you can't aquire new handguns anymore, and most of the restricted rifles were recently banned (and the present government has tried to increase that to just about all semiautomatics) , there is not a lot of purpose to the restricted course.
