nobody answer your phone calls or requests or estimates ( except for tree companies) but other outdoor work ( in my case) has been dismal. They publish phone numbers but they are never available to answer the phone, some don't have "offices" just buildings to hold equipment, they say email them with info and then you wait and wait and nothing, meanwhile there is deterioration taking place because what needs fixing isn't being fixed. Lumber yards don't seem to have services as such, only more cards with phone numbers and emails that don't get answered.  
I used to think neglected looking properties were the result of lazy owners, not true!!!!! Is it only big jobs being done now? new construction? tradespeople can't bothered by " maintenance jobs" any more?

Its been my experience that tree work, even at its longest, only takes a day to complete while other types of maintenance can take days or weeks to complete.  
 
And yes, they are likely to prioritize one big job over multiple small jobs to keep their own paychecks coming.  
 
You will likely have more success in the "off season".

We have noticed during our time living in Manitoba that it is particularly hard to get a lot of jobs done here. It seems that there is a huge shortage of skilled qualified tradespeople in many trades here . Those that are skilled and professional seem to be very busy and usually booking several months or years even in advance.  
Quite often smaller or undesirable maintenance jobs are not taken on , cherry picking the easiest and most profitable. It’s hard to blame them really but it does make it difficult for consumers wanting to get things fixed.

I would try MZ Royal construction, We had him do some replacement work in our backyard. Can Not recommend him enough! Our site was clean (no junk or nails) and ready to enjoy. He comes and sees the sight and talks to you about scope of work. His price for quality of work is outstanding. MZ Royal Construction is the way to go!

as much as I appreciate your response ,here in lies the rub , as much as I am ignored by company XYZ I do have a degree of confidence in their ability and reliability , however misplaced. A non-professional trades reliability for availability. I am not a tradesperson, someone could tell me what needs doing and I would believe them because they are supposed to know what they are talking about, they are in the business. You may be great but I don't know you/ your work and because of that I would be hesitant to go for forward.

I have lived in Manitoba my entire life.The best Contractors have always been able to pick and chose their clients. Some clients, and jobs, are just not worth the hassle.....

to state up front...."can't be bothered" , don't just pretend you have a hope in hell of them gracing you with their favour.

Yard Maintenance, tree trimming, fencework, eavestrough cleaning, pool maintenance, weeding, fertilizing, seeding, planting, landscaping.  
 
Some are busier than others depending on what you're in the market for. Maybe you can say what you need and folks might have some good suggestions.

We are a small business and always get back to every single inquiry we get. This is something that drives me crazy with other businesses. I am currently trying to get a product/service for our business at a place we have used before. I have emailed twice now and nothing. It’s an email I have talked to someone on previously. I personally like to have everything in writing so if there is a mistake I know if it was my doing or not. I guess I will have to try calling next week
