*Disclaimer - I will be reaching out to flight companies for more exact answers . But I thought I would ask here first. So please, no one say “ call them “ as I will.

I am a dual citizen, so between the 2 passports I am pretty much able to enter most countries visa free, so I’ve never really thought about visas before… however, in a number of months I will be travelling with someone who is not a Canadian Citizen, so my question is - when having connecting flight/layovers , would she need a transit visa? I find it hard to believe that everyone flying through, let’s say Amsterdam, would need a transit visa… that’s a lot of paperwork. I have traveled a lot, but I’ve always just hopped on the plane and everything was good - so I have never given transit visas a thought …

Anyone have any knowledge on the matter? TIA

As long as said person has PR card of Canada the no (not for where we are stopping over anyway). But if said person didn’t have PR card - then yes..

Can anyone confirm this? Interesting anyway. I learn something today! Who knew!!

What country is their passport from?

That will depend if they need one

Service Canada should open a Passport Services department to provide answers to travel questions of citizens.

I have some knowledge of this, as I'm a Canadian that travels to Thailand and Vietnam from time to time. My wife is from Thailand. Even with her PR Card she cannot enter the USA without a VISA. So when we fly back to Thailand I have to be certain the connecting flight doesn't stop in the USA which isn't hard to do.
On the otherside of that is the fact that I need a VISA to go to Vietnam, and she doesn't. As far as Thailand goes a Canadian can travel to Thailand for up to 30 days on your Canadian Passport, any long you need a VISA.
Do a search online for the contry your travel partner is from and see if where your contecting flights are going if that will be an issue. Another great resource is https://apply.joinsherpa.com/
