Pets do not belong in stores. Only service animals need to be allowed. Remember service animals are not pets they are trained animals to assist their owner.  
 
For people who try to fake their animal as a service animal. Shame on you.  
 
There is absolutely no reason to bring a dog shopping. Even animals going to vets have to be in a crate unless leashed and well behaved.  
 
You have a home leave them there. If you can’t trust your pet alone at home then you definitely can’t trust them shopping.  
 
Pets should never ever be allowed in a store that sells foods or a business that provides meals. I don’t care if you stay away from food area your pet is still spreading germs and fur. It is not healthy for humans and the priority here is people not pets.  
 
I have bitten severely by a dog called really friendly by owners. (Just out of the blue) For people hurt like this always report to officials. There are rules on aggressive animals. Even if owners are friends of yours. Next time it could be a child who gets attacked.  
 
Unfortunately like anything else minority of pet owners are irresponsible which makes it hard for responsible pet owners.  
 
I live in a pet friendly apartment allows 2 cats or dogs or combination to 2 in total. Irresponsible dog owners are making it hard for landlord. Not picking up poops outside. Even allowing dogs to poop in stairwells and not cleaning it up. I have found this plus diarrhea which was particularly disgusting.  
 
Children play in these green areas. I personally like dogs but don’t like seeing poop or smelling it.  
 
Then people complain they can’t find pet friendly apartments. Terrible pet owners give all pet owners a bad name.  
 
Summary don’t take pet’s shopping.

if the dog is not a service dog. then the dog shouldnt be allowed in stores. only store i can think of when any pet is allowed is a pet store.

Within reason I disagree. I trust and put faith in a dog any day before I would another human being.  
Whether pets are allowed in any store is really a matter for the store owner or manager to decide.

Those dogs are handled by those humans you apparently do not trust.  
 
In any case, having a lack of trust in humans is no reason to allow dogs in a store.  
 
There should be a certification for service dogs, and if you cannot produce your certificate your dog does not enter a store.

Was in Home Hardware yesterday and there was a well behaved medium sized dog in there. Put a lot of smiles on people’s faces.

Stores are free to set their own policies. I like seeing happy animals in stores when I'm shopping and out on patios when I'm having a meal. If you don't like that then you can always shop and eat at businesses that have no-pet policies.

Everyone is up in arms but there is a time and place for everything including taking pets to places. Taking your animal to pet friendly places is fine but having animals in places with food and textiles is usually not great. Pet hair in food is gross same as finding a human hair in your food. Having pet fur on clothing your trying to sell looks bad and what about allergies ? What about people with phobias due to being attacked ?  
Everyone is like OMG my dog would never ! But you can never be 100% sure. I’d love to know what lead up to the employee in Canadian tire being bitten. I’ve also had animals attack myself and when I had a dog my dog while out an about.  
I also don’t think it’s against PHIA to ask for registration for your animal since they need to be registered with the city and an actual training facility to be a service animal.

I agree! I’ve never met a dog I didn’t like! Can’t always say the same for the human species! If the store owner is okay with pets in the store, so be it! Not everyone has a love for dogs, I however do! Kudos to the store owner!!

I don't trust dogs or any animal. People think they have full control over them but that's just wishful thinking. There are lots of stories of dogs attacking people.

I started the original thread. This past weekend I went the Bad Dogs for Good Cause event held at Murray Chevrolet. I saw a number of people allowing their dogs to go up to other dogs/people and clearly they didn't ask ahead of time. I had 2 dogs with me and while trying to register, I had a lady with a little dog on a flexi-leash allowing her dogs to come up to mine. I politely asked her to keep her dog away from mine and she complied.  
 
This event was extremely well run and very well attended. It was a fundraiser that saw money distributed to 5 different rescue organizations in the area. I saw lots of dog owners who were very careful with where their dogs were and some even had them remaining in their vehicle until it was their turn. There's definitly a mix of reponsibility with dog owners in the city. One can only hope education will improve responsibility.

A woman brought her dog into Richmond Ave. McDonalds a couple of days ago.

I read somewhere that there are approximately 2000 people are attacked by dogs every day. And, this is in North America.

In how many of those dog attacks were the animals provoked in some way or another ? Typically an animal attacks for a reason.  
And for comparison how many people are attacked by other people every day in North America?

Pet owners are not arrogant, they are warm, loving and compassionate human beings! You can speak for all pet owners as you don’t know all of us!!

So there are several businesses I have been to in Brandon where the owner brings their dog to the office.  
Thoughts?

A well socialized dog becomes a confident and well mannerd dog. That is why I like to take my dogs to stores. I know deep in my heart that my big dog would only ever bite someone if she felt I was in harm's way. I also know that she's not fond of every dog, so I don't allow her to say "hi" to strange dogs. But I do allow her to say "hi" to a stranger who asks if they can pet her. Of those 2000 dogs, how many of them were socialized, or being raised by someone who has taught them manners. That is my point of socialization.

Entirely at the discretion of business owner or office manager.

My parent used to have a “shop dog”. Guard dog by night - you did not want to approach the fence once the compound was locked. During the day, she was inside and the nicest dog ever. She visited with customers. If you didn’t like her, you didn’t have to support the business.
