Anyone have any experience and feedback on the AFM engine systems for the GMC Sierra, possibly in the 2014 year range? Just thinking about looking at one at a dealership out by virden and looking for info to see if any users have had any of the reported valve issues and early engine trouble, or even had any transmission issues. I'm mostly just curious about overall repair experiences, both the good and the bad, and ideas on longevity.

Stay away from them. Lifter issues, as well as oil consumption issues. Was not a well thought out idea. Check youtube for hundreds of examples.

Agree with the poster above. My 2015 had oil pump and lifter issues. At 35,000km we parted ways.

I have the 2016 gmc 5.3 never had any of the issues mentioned above 160,000 km still running strong and I do find that the fuel efficiency is pretty good…

I have 245,000km on my 2018 with no issues but I will be deleting the AFM this summer

Yes they have afm issues but that can be turned off with a programmer or as said earlier deleted. They are still a good motor. I would say 300k kms plus easily with proper maintenance.

thinking a ten year old truck with AFM would not be great. Something like a 5.4 Ford motor. They both had their problems, that can be fixed. Given the choice I would avoid. Problem solved.

I didn't get over that way in time to test it out, and it was already sold. There's still a few more out there, just waiting until the right unit comes along.
