There is a rental shortage in Brandon.  
I have been looking now 2 months and when there is something it is gone in an hour as hundreds of people want it all at once, and prices are crazy.

Sorry you are having a hard time finding a place.  
Do you have your name on waiting lists? Contacted all the rental companies/managements in town? I get that it is really hard but make sure you have done your best to get all the information you can.  
Also the rents are high in town. With the NDP government cutting the property/school tax rebates the rents are going to jump again. The owners have to make up that money somewhere. Someplace will be regulated but newer one have no limit on what they can go up and those rebates disappearing will be made up in rent. I have this from a reliable building source in town. It sucks. What does the school tax rebate have to do with it? How is that going to make rents increase? Make what money up??

The Education portion of your property tax is refundable, but only to the person who is renting the unit, or if it's the home you reside in. In short, this program is only for home owners and renters. Besides that, it amounts to $350 per year. I can't see how that would cause the rent in a multi-tenant building to go up, especially considering it's the renter who gets the rebate, not the landlord. You have to live in the building in order to qualify.

There's rental shortages everywhere these days. Think about how many people are immigrating to Canada every year in addition to our own population growing. Our housing developments cannot keep up. It is sad...when I moved back to Brandon two years ago with a dog, I had a hard time finding a rental. Thankfully, I stumbled onto one that wasn't ideal for me (not a fenced yard for the dog) but I made it work until I could buy my own home. It is totally harder if you have a pet. I hope you can find something soon!

Did you look in the eBrandon classifieds? I counted around 30 between house to rent, room to rent, and roommate wanted. Take about 1/3 of those out as scammers. Be careful. don't be rushed into anything and don't rent without seeing and talking to the owner.
