Long time MP not running in election.
Should we have different approach and have independent Candidate as there was conservative for over 10 years and don't see merit for liberals or any other party who will serve westman

We are all biased. It's human nature. Having as "independent" representative, in Canada, rarely amounts to much, except in the very rare instance where they hold the balance of power.

Most of the benefits you mentioned are from the liberal government and it is one or less Generic across Canada or provincial by large. My point of attention is what extra we got from the strongest mandated MP? What extra we could get from mismatch situation in democracy knowing that Brandon will have 99% conservative MP which has been for 68 years from last 72 years of elections. What extra Brandon got? Federal prpcessing offices to provide good jobs like pension offices? Passport processing office? New education Institution? Clean drinking water to all households? Why in 21st centuary citizens of brandon have to relly on refilling water bottles?

I didn’t always agree with his stances, but wishing Larry M the best. The media release says that a health concern led to stepping back. Here’s hoping that more family, less flights and more time help him overcome and enjoy what comes next.

It’s always good to strive for more, but have to keep in mind that having an MP outside of government for a decade has its downsides. Also might not have been particularly inner circle with the party going by their featuring Brandon in a fentanyl ad earlier this year without the MP even seeing it ahead of time going by the quote in the Sun story on the ad.

Suppose anything's possible, but I’d think it would be extremely difficult for an independent to win the riding in such a short campaign unless they come in with some serious name recognition, money and cred not just within Brandon but all of the folks outside of the city that are a big part of tilting the riding convincingly Conservative in most years.

Heres hoping for a full slate of candidates to give maximum choice!

Are you seriously saying that the drinking water in Brandon is not only unsafe, but the responsibility of the Federal Government? I live in Brandon and me and my family drink unfiltered water from the tap for may years, with zero health issues as a result.

The federal government is constantly involved in providing funding to the City for Development, including a large 7 figure sum from the housing accelerator fund.

with your statement. Nothing in the area that stands out federally. Most kept voting him back in any way..

Notice frm city water may contain lead

If city level government of provincial government is not capable of solving basic needs of drinking water than yes Federal government should do the needful.

I am also drinking from tap water. My concern was when the recent notices came some parts of city that water may contain lead and than offering free test after 6 to 10 months.

Now do you want to still keep consuming tap water with uncertainty or have the responsibility owned by any level of Government for the taxes paid by citizens?

I assume you have not received the notice or not aware of the situation in the city overall

So now we have candidate not living to the MLA what he was voted for and going agter bigger aspirations of MP. And it is obvious he will get elected as it is conservatives driven voters. No matter what the existing Conservstive MP actually voted against the mentioned Daycare and Dental

figured Grant Jackson was just waiting for the day Larry leaves to jump in. Get in young, be MP for a few years and get a full pension. Just like someone else. Of course Grant was working in Larry's office prior.

Jackson is leaving his MLA seat, one of the Manitoba PC leadership candidates want's his seat. The guy from Churchill. The guy who said he will feed the homeless to polar bears. The guy who said a muslim shouldn't be the leader. This guy doesn't care about anyone in the riding of Sprucewoods.

Back to Jackson, should he get elected, he will be eligible for full MP pension after 6 years. Sadly, since both are Conservatives, they will be elected.

I think you are from one of the city staff or biased to the facts.
See the concrete evidence.
There can be endless excuses to this but the fact is you to see and contact city and find out.
I hope you are person with designation and corrective measures are implemented immediately or city should provide water bottles till it is 100% safe drinking water by tests.

Like the letter you attached says the problem is old lead pipes that go from the house to the main line at the street. The lead problem is not with the city water or the city main pipes. . This is in older areas of town. That pipe into the house is also the responsibility of the home owner.

So I will only vote if someone can get me a hospital bed when I need it and knock down the price of groceries because I’m barely hanging on here now and at one time I was in the middle class. So far, no politician has done anything to help out these situations. I’m not voting just to fatten up some guys pension who does nothing.

Provide the evidence/proof that all city main pipes are lead free. As I said any excuse would be just cover-up. Older areas of town would be the residents assuming they are staying there would be the citizens who paid the most in taxes. It is responsibility of all government herirachy to provide a basic human need to have 100% drinkable water till the connection up to house. Inside house is agreed is responsibility of the owners.

Surely something needs to be done by government. But in democracy you must VOTE.
As you might be aware that lot of things in Canada is still old school and there is quota system for good or bad on simple consumables like milk. There are restrictions for operating new business in several sectors. Unless that big changes happens there are no quick reforms coming.

That information you posted is for service lines. A service line is that portion of the municipal water utility that runs from the main to your meter.

Anyone with an ounce of knowledge of municipal utilities would know that.

How could you possibly accuse anyone of a coverup when you can go on to the City's website and find out how to address lead in your water, and at the cost of the City?

You might have ounce of knowledge which says quality of it when you are measuring knowledge by weight.

Instead of personal attacks I challenge you to prove me wrong that lines(pipes) running on the ownership of city does not carry lead. Evidence and not words

This are pipes(lines) under the streets which are part of city infrastructure. If the water tested to the inlet where the house meter is connected test for lead. It should be the Government responsibility.(municipality)

Unless you think citizens should dig the pipeline and replace till the source of water.

You are wrong. The service line from the water main to the house is the responsibility of the homeowner.

If the topic of the thread is the election and the idea of an independent candidate running on this one single issue and defying the odds in a month, there might be enough feedback here to get a read of the room on? Any other specific ideas for how an independent candidate without government or party affiliation could get things done federally for folks in Brandon-Souris better than candidates who have declared so far?

Independent was just a thought who would be really do actions to improve rather than party politics.
Brandon areas is the conservative stronghold. It is obvious the declared candidate of conservative party will be elected.

When the candidates if show up for asking votes, take opportunity to ask what they will do for:
Safe drinking water.

Education levels (Students in Manitoba are Canada's worst in math, reading: as per recent cbc news report)

New job opportunities with inflation adjusted pays

What thoughts they have to bring the groceries cost down at least parity with winnipeg.
