Noise complaints

So, I’m writing this to see if any local residents have had a similar issue and what resources they sought out. Every spring/summer, we have a noise issue with our neighbour. Their almost 30 year old son lives with them, and most weekends throughout the spring and summer, he chooses to have loud parties in their backyard. Most weekends it feels like we live next to a frat house: vehicles constantly pulling up with loud music, parking etc. and then we are kept awake half the night by the noise or woken by the noise when they come home from bars. This guy clearly needs to grow up, and I don’t think we should suffer because he’s too much of a loser to move out. We have spoken to the ‘parent’ of the home: and he will speak with them and then it just continues happening. My husband has gone outside and told them to shut it, that works for one night, and then they are back at it again the next night or weekend. We live in a ‘good’ are of town, we pay a huge amount in property taxes/mortgage, and I think we are entitled to be able to sleep in our own home. Their backyard is right outside our bedroom window. It’s been about 4 years of this: we are currently expecting, and I just cannot tolerate the sleep deprivation and disrespect any longer. I don’t want to disturb the police, as they have so much on their plates, and feel silly calling them but I don’t know what to do. Has anyone had luck addressing this level of noise complaint? Do we call the police? It feels silly to call 911, but I’m unsure of the protocol here.

usually in effect after 11pm? Call and ask City Police or google local laws.

I would pull out and crank up my own speakers at them first thing in the morning.

Call them, I know it seems like a trivial thing but they have bylaw enforcement officers for exactly this issue. Once you call there will be a record of it, and if it keeps happening, keep calling. The fines/warnings will add up.

are there other neighbors that have a problem with the noise ?

Start calling the police, get it on record for noise complaints.
Mow the grass at 8:00 am
Take out the weed trimmer the next day at 8:00am
Get your neighbors together and call the police.

Sorry you have to deal with this. If it’s after 11pm and before I believe 7 am you can call police. So up until 11pm you’re kinda S.O.L. Since he’s not the owner maybe try to speak with his parents? I know you should not have to also speaking of that where are his parents while this is going on ? If you have already tried to speak to him and his parents… then just start calling the police. They may just wait till bylaw is in or they may visit. With the amount of taxes we all pay .. we are all entitled to enjoy our space . That goes both ways unfortunately but within reason . Hope it gets settled out for ya !

I have one of those neighbours too! Stereo blasting so loud that my walls rattle. I have spoken to him and even banged on the door one night. Its good for a while then starts up again

As for calling the police, it is not a 911 call. But I believe this number is manned 24/7 so you could try it next night there is a party. 204-729-2345

Please don't call 911 as that is for emergencies only. I suggest you call the non emergency phone line at 204-729-2345 as there are noise bylaws and they can take reports. Good luck.
