Hello everyone I got a question .  
It’s anyone having trouble finding a job in Brandon ?  
I’m even thinking about going back to school and then move to another province. Am I the only one having trouble with this in Brandon?

No your not the only one having a difficult time finding a job. Alot of different jobs were laying off employees.

I am very curious about your statement, who is laying off people right now?  
 
I manage a small department of skilled trades and finding people is nearly impossible, it took me 3 years to fill a vacant position. My daughter is currently working over 60 hours at 2 jobs and my wife is working a side job and helping out at her old job.  
 
There are lots of open positions, you just need to be in the right industry, have the right training or know the right people.

Hotels only keep people temporary. If there posting job says "may turn into full time" don't believe it.  
 
Homecare workers in homes.  
 
Mechanics.... especially during covid  
 
Trucking of any class.  
 
Bank, credit unions  
 
Restaurants, coffee shops  
 
 
All these companies I have had a boss tell me we have to cut the new employees or were just currently not hiring even if there's posting saying they are.  
 
 
 
Brandon doesn't seem like the location I will be living at for much longer as I'm stretching my job search further out.

I have been looking for work since the beginning of this year and have loads of interviews but nothing. I have 5+ years in reception which I left to attend Assiboine College unfortunately my class had a serious illness take us all out at point me to the point it collapsed my lung so I couldn't gain my certification. I'm now going crazy not having the routine of work fingers crossed I find something soon

Bragging that it took you three years to fill one job just shows something was wrong with the offer. That’s not a sign people don’t want to work. That’s a management failure.  
 
Your wife working 60 hours is not a flex. It’s a sign that one job doesn’t pay enough. Your daughter helping her out sounds like she got in because of family, not because she earned it like everyone else has to. That just proves how broken and unfair the system is.  
 
Your post is full of problems and completely out of touch with how things actually are for most people in 2025. Most jobs are low pay, high stress, and hard to get unless you have connections. Nothing you said helps anyone. It just shows how disconnected you are from reality.

That is where jobs are.  
 
For anyone.  
 
Push to get apprentice. Get paid on the job. Then each year take a couple of weeks at Red River College. Getting paid by unemployment. No waiting period.  
 
University is never the way to go. Very expensive and trains you for nothing.  
 
Apply for everything. Make sure resume is up to date. And for goodness sake clean up your social media. Employers look at that all the time.

While trades are a good career path and in demand, so are careers which require a university degree. Nurses, doctors, teachers, accountants, lawyers....the list goes on. Saying that University is never the way to go and trains you for nothing is very short sighted.

I find that alot of business will put out fake or 'feelers' job opportunities just to see how many people will actually apply. You know that because their ad will stay up there for 30 plus days. It never seems to come down and then again. Next month it'll be up again.  
 
The other issue is that the job's in Brandon is that it doesnt pay enough, they pay minimum wage and their part time and a lot of us need benefits and full-time. Because we luve by ourselves and we need medical health care And we can't afford the rent in this town.

people complain there are no jobs or just poor paying jobs, yet I have not seen any of the complainers tell us what kind of job the are looking for, what they are qualified to do, experience.  
 
some jobs do not pay more than minimum wages and that is just a fact, look for a job elsewhere, Ebrandon has over 150 jobs listed for Brandon  
 
With some background info you may actually get some good advise.  
 
 
I worked for many years as a service manager in a garage. I hired many good people and did not hire many people because of their unrealistic expectations such as unwilling to work certain hours, no experience/training yet wanting paid like you where fully trained and years of experience, poor personal presentation, poor work record, complaining how bad their last workplace was.  
Now I would be checking the social media posts for anything that you would not be a good fit for our business.  
If going to school make sure that the schooling/training you take is for a job that is in demand and will eventually pay you the wages you desire. For example a degree in basket weaving(if there is one) is unlikely to pay $100,000 a year.  
 
 
Let us know what your schooling/training/experience is and you may get some real help or advise on finding a job

Yes, many people have had difficulty finding employment in brandon  
( depends on what kind of jobs/career you are wanting)  
I know many people who have left the city as a result of this

I was a work clothing supply store on monday,I was buying work socks for my 16 year old grandson who was starting work roofing him and 2 young guys he knew,he said i know its hard work papa but i wamt to make some money this summer to fix up my old truck.

The job market in Brandon can be pretty misleading. There are job ads everywhere, and employers often say, “No one wants to work, we can’t find good staff.” But on the flip side, there are lots of people applying for jobs every week and not even getting a callback.  
 
Education and training (including apprenticeships) can help, but there is no guarantee. Even though businesses say there’s a labour shortage, the problem isn’t just about immigration. A big part of it is a mismatch between the jobs available and the skills people have. Some positions need very specific qualifications or experience that many applicants just don’t have.

Yeah it is not easy finding a job in Brandon. But don't quit, keep "pushing" by searching. Be open to varieties of job and gradually, when you are on one, a more suitable one will gradually come...

Immigrants cannot "take jobs" from Canadians. The process is more complicated than you think, and there has to be proof that an employer has tried to hire a Canadian for a position and been unsuccessful.

In the 20 years I've lived here, I have found it's very much a "who you know" kind of place. Any employment or employment offers I've had have been because I knew someone.  
 
Going to school might be a good option because you'll make industry contacts. But other ways of networking might be less expensive if you like the industry you work in.
