i have been very impressed with the friendliness and service of the staff at Home Depot this summer. Great job staff!

Always a good experience there! Have you noticed that when you go out with a positive attitude expecting the same in return, that's what you get? On the other hand, when you have a negative mindset and "know" that you'll get bad service, you'll find it? It's always a choice. Thank you for your positive post!

I worked there and just retired from there, I always tried to be friendly and greet everyone.

I prefer to buy from local instead of big chain stores like Home Depot BUT if I get lumber it’s indoors, I grab a cart and , by myself, pick through the pile taking the nice straight pieces only. I know you can pick your lumber a  
t other places but there’s more pressure to go fast because there’s a yard staff helping.

I've been getting my lumber at McMunn and Yates for years and have never felt hurried or any pressure to go fast. The yard guy shows me the pile, I pick what I want at my leisure, and he confirms the quantities after I'm done. Easy peasy and McMunn is local.

remember there are "local" staff that can easily be out of a job if business goes down.

But most loacl store employ local workers, while most big box stores employ non-local, or international workers. Not quite the same thing.

I find it strange that at the self check out, the store employee will come over and scan my items for me. This happens all the time unless they are already busy with another customer. Why not just have them open a regular till? I hate self check out and will go to a till if one is available. Otherwise, I love Home Depot! I agree with the customer service comments! They have always been awesome!

They do this to make sure people as scanning all items. Home Depot is a high theft store.  
Also another reason is when things are on clearance, they can ring up for a penny, which by default is not allowed.

Holy...I didn't know that about the clearance items. I just read in the Sun today about a woman who received jail time for theft from Winners (yay!). I guess Home Depot would be a good target for thieves, too. I hate shoplifting. I know they think it's no big deal because the "insurance companies" reimburse the store for the loss, but I don't accept that as a valid ready to rip off any store. Get a job, buy stuff legitimately and stop being a drain on society!

What is the difference between local, non-local, or international workers?  
 
They are working here, living here, and spending their money here. Where someone was born should not dictate whether they should be hired for a job or not. Qualifications come first, whether a store is considered locally owned or is a chain.

Close, but depending on the value, theft isn't always claimed through your insurance company. Generally the company inflates their pricing to cover the cost of the losses, so consumers (the ones who actually pay) are the ones paying for the theft that happens.
