The City should try placing large 'contractor sized' dumpsters next to the recycling bins for a trial period of three months.  
The large dumpsters would be there to recieve everything that would usually end up spoiling the recycling bins. This would really help clear up the mess that has been a city eyesore fro far too long.  
I also think that the recycling bins and dumpster(s) should be placed in the green space off of Aberdeen Ave. at about the 1200 block. As well there could be a site where the old pool was at the 1040 13th Street. There could also be a site on 26th Street where the community gardens are located.  
 
We do need to keep recycling. People are showing us they need to dispose of their junk, and aren't willing to drive it to the landfill and pay a fee. How about we solve the problem by enabing residents to choose to easily and responsibly make the right choice!

I completely agree that Council knee-jerked on this issue. City Administration came to them with their version of the problem and offered what seemed like a simple and logical answer without considering the ripples this move would cause. Administration's agenda was obvious - make it easy for us to manage. Well I can appreciate there are many issues that need altering as far as the recycling depots go. They shouldn't be in residential areas like the one on 34th and Victoria, they do contribute to litter and yes, some people will always dump items that are not suited to the depot. One councilor suggested cameras and I think that is a viable solution for "mattress dumpers, etc.". Other than that, have the bins emptied more often. It is more work for the Administration but running a transit system is difficult as well but the City needs to provide these services to it's residents. I will say it again, the more difficult the City makes it to recycle, the more people won't participate. Then we all lose.

People are just going to dump stuff in business bins or just in the ditches. If they're already illegal dumping in the recycle bins, what makes you think they're going to stop and decide to drive across town to put in the bins there....  
 
Not to mention they also cut down the home recycle bins to every 2 weeks. I just stuff my garbage bin now with recycling each week with whatever room I have left. Seems like a smart move by the city...
