I completely agree that Council knee-jerked on this issue. City Administration came to them with their version of the problem and offered what seemed like a simple and logical answer without considering the ripples this move would cause. Administration's agenda was obvious - make it easy for us to manage. Well I can appreciate there are many issues that need altering as far as the recycling depots go. They shouldn't be in residential areas like the one on 34th and Victoria, they do contribute to litter and yes, some people will always dump items that are not suited to the depot. One councilor suggested cameras and I think that is a viable solution for "mattress dumpers, etc.". Other than that, have the bins emptied more often. It is more work for the Administration but running a transit system is difficult as well but the City needs to provide these services to it's residents. I will say it again, the more difficult the City makes it to recycle, the more people won't participate. Then we all lose.
