An easy option for buying an e-sim ahead of time is Airalo, they have good prices - almost as good as buying a card in-person in Europe. "
It is true that esim is a cheaper option however I like the travel pack option for the reason to have my same phone number and use my phone data and calls the same as I would here at home - if you go for price - yes it is cheaper to get a e sim I believe my travel pack for 14 days Europe was like $55 if I remember correctly
