The Neepawa Farmers are starting to find some consistency to their game, as they recently topped the Carberry Plainsmen by the score of 5-2.

The game, held on Saturday, Dec. 3, in Carberry, actually didn’t start all that well for the Farmers though, as Daylon Creasy scored just 39 seconds into the first period making it 1-0 for the Plainsmen. That early deficit, however, served as a figurative splash of water to the face, waking up the Farmers for the rest of the game. Kyle McDonald tied the contest a few minutes later, while Matt Lowry provided the go-ahead goal at 12:12, allowing Neepawa to secure the 2-1 lead after the first period of play.

In the second, a quick start from the Farmers allowed them to take control of the game. Cam Tibbett and Bret Levandoski scored just 31 seconds apart, to make it 4-1 for the visiting Farmers less than four minutes into the middle frame. While Michael Reykdal cut the deficit at the 9:30 mark, it was Neepawa who were able to control the majority of gameplay throughout the second, insuring a 4-2 lead shifting into the third.

Ward Szucki potted Neepawa’s fifth and final goal of the night, just 38 seconds into the third. That goal went along with three assists that he had registered early in the night. From there, the Farmers (4-4-0) were able to cruise to the 5-2 win, to move up one position to fifth place in the Tiger Hills Hockey League eastern division standings. This weekend, Neepawa hosts a pair of games at the Yellowhead Centre. First, they face the Minnedosa Bombers on Friday, Dec. 9  and then will meet the MacGregor Wild on Sunday, Dec. 11. Both those games will have a 7:30 p.m. start time.
