Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – Strathclair native Morgan Geekie is in Raleigh, North Carolina this week for Carolina Hurricanes development camp.
The former Yellowhead Chief had a breakout year with the Tri-City Americans with 90 points in 72 games.
He was chosen in the third round (67th overall) in last weekend’s NHL Entry Draft.
"It was a special time for sure. It was really nice to spend it with my family and friends. That made it a special moment for all of us.’"
After a tough season in which the Americans were eliminated from the playoffs in just four games, Geekie says now is the time to prove himself.
"You want to get out there and be noticed and get your foot in the door early. Everyone is a good player here and they’re here for a reason."
Wheat Kings forward Stelio Mattheos is at Hurricanes Camp as well. He was chosen just six picks after Geekie.
