Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The long road to recovery continues for Brandon Wheat Kings Captain, Nolan Patrick.
The #2 overall pick in this year’s NHL Entry Draft will not take part in the on-ice portion of Philadelphia Flyers development camp this weekend.
Patrick had surgery on June 13th to try and fix the injury that has nagged him since the team’s championship run, one year ago.
"Once we found out what the issue was and what had been bothering him all year…for me it provided us with clarity," said Flyers GM Ron Hextall.
The surgery done by Dr. William Meyers; who is the founder of the Vincera Institute, a medical center in Philadelphia that specializes in the treatment of core muscle injuries.
Most recently, Meyers treated Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch. He’s also taken care of Adrian Peterson and Arian Foster to Justin Verlander and Robinson Cano.
"We’re excited that he had it done and got it fixed by Dr. Meyers," added Hextall. "I talked to Nolan yesterday and he said he feels terrific."
The Flyers expect their top prospect to resume off-season training in 2-4 weeks time. Patrick has committed to moving to Philadelphia for the summer and continue his rehab and training with the Flyers medical staff.
"He’s going to be here for the biggest part of the summer, which I think is terrific on his part," added Hextall. "When he saw Dr. [Meyers] and knew this needed to happen he was proactive. His agent reached out to us and said Nolan wants to do this on his own. I think that certainly shows the character of this young man."
The Flyers will open up development camp on Friday at the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone.
