On Saturday, Dec. 2 the life of Bryce Waldon was snatched from this earth. The 33-year-old was born, raised and educated on a farm near Rapid City. As of early morning Wednesday, Dec. 13 there were 75 posts on Brockie Donovan’s tribute page made for his family. Several of those mentioned his big smile and kind heart, a compassionate man and the go-to guy for assistance on any project. What makes the situation more tragic is the abrupt halt to such an exciting part of life’s journey.

Bryce was married on April 15, 2017 and was building a new home (on the farm at Rapid City) for his wife and baby, due to be born on Feb. 19, 2018. It was while working on this new dwelling that he fell from the roof and died. Because of the extreme sadness the community feels for his new wife and unborn child, two funds have been created. One is a Royal Bank collection (Boissevain, Brandon, Deloraine, Minnedosa and Neepawa only) for Baby Waldon Trust Fund; donations there must be made by Sunday, Jan. 7. The other fund is an online opportunity at youcaring.com; search for Caryn Waldon.

Information on that pages states: “They were newly married, had a baby on the way and Bryce was working hard to help build their dream house on their farm. They couldn't be happier. Caryn is an OR nurse at Brandon Regional Health Centre. Caryn is getting close to her due date, meaning she will soon be a single parent, on maternity leave, earning only a portion of her income. Anyone that knows Caryn knows she would do anything for anyone, no questions asked. Caryn and her late husband, Bryce, were both selfless to a fault. Caryn has a huge heart, has helped so many people in their time of need and truly deserves all the support she can get right now.”

The page has a goal of $50,000 and as of Dec. 13, 353 donors had given $30,078. The page is being promoted on local radio stations and globalnews.ca.

Bryce’s funeral was held at Central United Church in Brandon on Saturday, Dec. 9. The sanctuary and balcony were both packed, so people stood along the sides of the auditorium and even more watched from behind the glass windows that separate the church from the foyer. Although these two funds have been created, it was noted in the obituary that donations may also be sent to Rapid City Community Complex, in memory of Bryce, Box 130, Rapid City, MB R0K 1W0.

In addition to his new wife and unborn child, Bryce also leaves behind parents Don and Loretta, older brother Clint (his wife and two children), grandma Marion Waldon and Caryn’s side of the family (Edwards).
