Regina, SK (CKLQ) – The Regina Pats scored three goals in just over two minutes in the 2nd period to take over the momentum and roll to a 5-4 victory at the Brandt Centre on Thursday night.
Brandon opened up a 2-0 lead just 1:30 into the 2nd period but it quickly evaporated after the Wheat Kings began a parade to the penalty box. Logan Nijhoff, Cale Fleury (PPG) and Bryan Lockner (PPG) scored in a span of 2:23 to give the Pats the lead.
Brandon would not be able to regain the lead in the game and each time they tied it, the Pats quickly got back in control.
After Matt Bradley put the Pats up 5-4 midway through the third period, the Wheat Kings would furiously try and tie the game. A late powerplay gave Brandon a 6 on 4 advantage but they couldn’t beat Tyler Brown and they ran out of time.
Special teams was a key factor in the game, Brandon took eight minor penalties and afforded the Pats a five on three as well. Regina finished the night 2/8 while Brandon couldn’t convert on their three chances finishing 0/3.
Evan Weinger (1G-2A) was named the game’s 3rd star while Ty Lewis, Zach Wytinck and Stelio Mattheos would add singles for the Wheat Kings who got 31 saves from Dylan Myskiw.
Brandon will look to hit the rest button when they welcome the Moose Jaw Warriors to Westman Place on Saturday afternoon. (2:00 pre-game show on QCountry Radio)
