Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Brandon Wheat Kings earned an impressive 4-2 win over the WHL’s East Division leading Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night.
Ty Lewis netted a hat-trick and Logan Thompson turned in a stellar 41 save performance as the Wheat Kings earned a valuable two points in the division playoff race.
The Wheat Kings quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead and chased Warriors starting goaltender Brody Willms (2GA on 6 Shots). Lewis would make it 3-0 before the Warriors got on the board late in the period to make it 3-1.
After a scoreless 2nd period, the Warriors would bring the game to within one on a five on three powerplay. However, that’s a close as they would get. Lewis would seal the deal with his hat-trick goal making the game 4-2.
Stelio Mattheos would add the other goal for Brandon while Barrett Sheen and Justin Almeida replied for the Warriors.
The win leapfrogs the Wheat Kings into 3rd place in the division, one point ahead of the Regina Pats.
The Wheat Kings head to Swift Current tonight to take on the Broncos (7:00 MB on QCountry Radio.)
