Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – You can now register for Brandon’s new youth basketball program.
The Westman Youth Basketball Association will be offering kids aged 8 to 17 the opportunity to play basketball during the spring months this year.
Organizer and Brandon University women’s basketball coach Novell Thomas says it’s will give kids more of a choice for sports.
"Compared to other sports in the region, there was never an organization for basketball in the region," said Novell, "We should have more of a basketball presence."
Games would be played at BU’s Healthy Living Centre, George Fitton School and Linden Lanes school.
They will be played on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays between 6 to 8:30pm.
Thomas says the game is growing in the region, especially since he brought in basketball programs to Brandon University.
"We think parents that had kids join the Junior Bobcat club program were looking for more," said Novell, "So we thought the next best thing to do was start up a league."
Already around 100 kids have signed up to participate this year, with registration set to close on March 23.
