Police say they are looking for a suspect who attempted to sexually assault a 62-year-old woman in the Osborne Village area Friday afternoon.

The female victim was gardening in her yard at about 4:00 p.m. when a man approached her asking for directions, say police. The suspect then asked to use her phone.

When she declined, police say the suspect pulled out a knife and grabbed the victim by the wrist pulling her between some houses. The victim then made comments of a sexual nature, says Const. Natalie Aitken of the Winnipeg Police Service.

Police say the suspect fled the area after the victim screamed and alerted a neighbour. Officers searched the area extensively but the suspect was not located. The victim was not injured from the incident, say police.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 19 to 20 years old, about 5'7", with short dark hair and clean shaven. Police say he was wearing a brown zip-up hooded sweatshirt, white Bermuda plaid shorts and carrying a back pack.

Officers are asking anyone with information on this incident or the suspect to call the Winnipeg Police Sex Crime Unit at 986-6245 or CrimeStoppers at 786-8477.
