Officers are investigating an apparent assault case in Winnipeg that led to a man being rushed to hospital early Friday morning.

Police were called around 1:30 a.m. to the area of Maryland Street and Cumberland Avenue for a report of an injured male.

Investigators have identified the victim as a 43-year-old man. Police say the victim was in the area when he robbed by one or more people.

Paramedics responded and took the man, who appeared to be physically assaulted, to hospital in critical condition.
