Game day thread: Prince George @ Wheat Kings, 2:30 PM
11/11/2009 at 10:28 AM
Prince George Cougars (3-14-1-1, 10th in Western Conference)
Top scorers: Marek Viedensky (2+12=14), Jesse Forsberg (1+11=12), Alex Rodgers (5+5=10), Dallas Jackson (4+5=9)
Top scoring defenceman: Jesse Forsberg (1+11=12)
Probable starting goaltender: To say the least, Prince George's goaltending situation has been unstable this year. Newcomer Hudson Stremmel faced 44 shots in last night's loss to Regina (0-4-1-0, 0.912 save pct, 3.62 GAA). Because of that I'll guess that Alex Wright (1-0-0-0, 0.869 save pct, 4.52 GAA) gets the call.
Manitobans: Nil
Brandon Wheat Kings (11-8-0-2, T-4th in Eastern Conference)
Top scorers: Jay Fehr (10+14=24), Brayden Schenn (9+15=24), Matt Calvert (10+12=22), Aaron Lewadniuk (8+14=22)
Top scoring defenceman: Colby Robak (2+11=13)
Probable starting goaltender: Take your pick of Andrew Hayes (10-5-0-1, 0.907 save pct, 2.62 GAA), Jacob De Serres (1-5-0-1, 0.875 save pct, 3.67 GAA). If De Serres is the backup, it would stand to reason that he might get the chance.
Former Wheat King head coach Dean Clark makes a return visit to Westman Place as head coach of Prince George.
Going back as far as I can remember, going to a Wheat King game on Remembrance Day has almost been just a bit more special than your average game. From the pre-game moment of silence to the athmosphere in a usually-packed building, it's usually one of the games I remember at the end of the season.
No team at this level of hockey should be taken lightly, but currently Clark's Cougars have scored the least amount of goals in the WHL and have the worst team goals against average. So far on their Eastern road trip they have given up 40, 44 and 44 shots in their first three games. If that trend continues, this could be a great opportunity for some of the Wheat Kings' skill players to show their stuff.
Lineups and scratches will be posted approx 1/2 hour before game time.
