Game day thread: Regina @ Wheat Kings, 6 PM
11/15/2009 at 12:15 PM
Regina Pats (10-11-2-0, Tie-8th in Eastern Conference)
Top scorers: Jordan Eberle (16+19=35), Jordan Weal (11+17=28), Brett Leffler (9+13=22), Matt Strueby (12+5=17)
Top scoring defenceman: Colten Teubert (5+10=15)
Probable starting goaltender: Going to guess that backup Dawson Guhle (4-4-1, 0.872 save pct, 4.09 GAA) gets the call with starter Damien Ketlo having played each of Friday and Saturday.
Manitobans: Kyle Mulder (Winnipeg), Jason Gardiner (Winnipeg), Alex Pym (Winnipeg)
Brandon Wheat Kings (12-9-0-2, 5th in Eastern Conference)
Top scorers: Brayden Schenn (9+20=29), Matt Calvert (13+14=27), Jay Fehr (10+17=27), Aaron Lewadniuk (8+16=24)
Top scoring defenceman: Colby Robak (4+14=18)
Probable starting goaltender: Take your pick of Jacob De Serres (2-5-0-1, 0.876 save pct, 3.59 GAA) or Andrew Hayes (10-6-0-1, 0.905 save pct, 2.70 GAA). With five games over the next seven days, both goalies will see their share of starts. If forced to guess, I'd say De Serres tonight.
The Regina Pats make their first visit of the season to Brandon. The Wheat Kings won the only head-to-head matchup so far, a 3-0 shutout almost two months ago (Sept 19) in Regina.
The Wheat Kings are coming off one of their better efforts of the season so far, a hard fought 4-3 loss to Saskatoon on Friday. Tonight will be a big test to see if they're able to sustain that level of play against an opponent that's lower in the standings. Pats are still not to be taken lightly, as they're only four points behind the Wheat Kings in the Eastern Conferene standings.
Lineups and scratches approx a half hour before game time. Would be great as always to read folks' pre and post-game thoughts.
