Game day thread: Kelowna at Wheat Kings, 7:30 PM
12/11/2009 at 9:54 AM
Kelowna Rockets (17-5-1-0, 5th in Western Conference)
Top scorers: Shane McColgan (14+20=34), Tyson Barrie (6+28=34), Brandon McMillan (9+21=30), Mitchell Callahan (9+16=25)
Top scoring defenceman: Barrie (6+28=34) may be the WHL's top offensive defenceman.
Probable starting goaltender: Mark Guggenberger, the starter for last year's Memorial Cup run, is apparently ready to return to the Rocket lineup. Will they throw him to the wolves against the top offense in the WHL, or will the over-worked Adam Brown (17-13-1-0, 0.900 save percentage, 2.95 goals against average) get the call?
Manitobans: None
Brandon Wheat Kings (21-11-0-2, 3rd in Eastern Conference)
Top scorers: Brayden Schenn (14+34=48), Matt Calvert (24+22=46), Jay Fehr (14+26=40), Aaron Lewadniuk (14+24=38)
Top scoring defenceman: Colby Robak (7+25=32)
Probable starting goaltender: Jacob De Serres (8-5-0, 0.890 save percentage, 3.48 goals against average)
The defending WHL Champion Kelowna Rockets make their only (regular season) visit to Westman Place tonight.
After initially being "jinxed" in Friday night home games, the Wheat Kings will be looking to win their third straight Friday game at Westman Place and fourth straight Friday game overall. The Wheat Kings have in fact lost just one of their last nine games (8-1-0).
The Rockets are 2-0 so far on their Eastern road trip, including a 9-5 pounding of the Regina Pats on Wednesday.
Has anyone read anywhere if this is Schenn and Glennie's last game, or if they're expected to play tomorrow night as well? Team Canada Camp is supposed to start camp tomorrow, so I'm guessing this is it.. unless the optimist in me can rationalize us squeaking one more game out of them because of how close to Saskatoon we are?
Would be great to hear others thoughts on the matchup pre and post-game. Just a reminder that this thread is intended to be about this game... please use a separate thread for trade talk.
Also a note that after missing a couple games, I'll be back in the saddle.. which means I'll add a few pics post-game.
