Hamiota man off to the olympics

Congratulations to my old friend and schoolmate Lyndon Johnston in coaching the US pairs figure skating team to the Olympics. He says he may have to sew a maple leaf inside his US jacket.
complete story on the Brandon Sun website.
He is a two-time Canadian Olympic figure skater, but when Hamiota native Lyndon Johnston arrives in Vancouver next month, his Canadian passport will be carried in a Team USA jacket.
The 48-year-old former member of the Hamiota Figure Skating Club will be helping coach both of the American pairs teams at the Winter Olympic Games after his skaters swept first and second place at the United States Figure Skating Championships over the weekend in Spokane, Wash.
For Johnston, who proudly wore the Maple Leaf while skating for Canada in both the 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo and the 1988 Olympics in Calgary, it will be a little awkward donning the American colours at this year’s Games.
“I will be wearing red, white and blue in the opening ceremonies, so it’s kind of crazy,” Johnston said via telephone from Spokane.
