Game day thread: Swift Current @ Wheat Kings, 7:30 PM
2/12/2010 at 9:18 AM
Swift Current Broncos (28-26-0-4, Tie-8th in Eastern Conference)
Top scorers: Cody Eakin (39+34=73), Justin Dowling (25+38=63), Brad Hoban (14+31=45), Stepan Novotny (22+22=44)
Top scoring defenceman: Travis Bobbee (5+20=25)
Probable starting goaltender: The Broncos have been riding Morgan Clark (17-13-0-2, 0.902 save percentage, 3.06 goals against average) over the past several games and I'll go with that trend continuing.
Manitobans: Michael Hay (Winnipeg), Cody Eakin (Winnipeg), Travis Bobbee (Arborg), Mark Friesen (Winkler)
Brandon Wheat Kings (38-16-1-3, Tie-1st in Eastern Conference)
Top scorers: Matt Calvert (37+37=74), Brayden Schenn (23+48=71), Aaron Lewadniuk (28+38=66), Scott Glennie (24+42=66)
Top scoring defenceman: Colby Robak (11+39=50)
Probable starting goaltender: With Jacob De Serres having started the past six games, if healthy I'll guess that Andrew Hayes (20-12-0-2, 0.901 save percentage, 2.82 goals against average) gets the call tonight.
The Wheat Kings will no doubt be facing a hungry team tonight when they take on the Swift Current Broncos. The Broncos are currently in a fight for the eighth and final playoff spot in the East, with one point separating themselves and two other teams for spots seven through nine in the standings.
Brandon had been a perfect 4-0 in the season series before the Broncos' 4-2 win on December 28. So far in the five games, Brad Hoban has given the Wheat Kings a ton of trouble with four goals and eight points. At lot can happen to a team in six weeks in the WHL, so it will be interesting to see how these two matchup.
Good news... I've been given the green light to film in-arena and use video from WK games on eBrandon. Initial plan was to cutup highlight packages that show plays developing a little longer than a typical highlight package to give a bit of a different perspective, but am curious what types of video folks might find interesting and what type of video you feel might work well within the eBrandon and "game day thread" format.
As always, I'll have scratches and lineups approx 1/2 hour before game time. It would be great to hear others' thoughts on the matchup pre and post-game.
