Wheat Kings vs. Calgary series
4/6/2007 at 9:56 AM
Round two begins tonight!
I really have no idea what to expect in game 1. One one hand Calgary could be really ramped up coming out of a high intensity series just two days ago.. on the other hand they could be worn out after 7+ games and a long bus trip from Cranbrook.
Some interesting sub-plots to the series. #1 it'll be quite the celebration of the Brandon AAA Midget program. There are a *lot* of players with Brandon connections on both sides.. arguably most notably Plante vs. Plante.
Alex Plante and Ryan Reaves had quite the battle going in last year's playoffs. Should be interesting to see if this continues.
Karl Alzner was picked over Dustin Kohn for the World Jr's in December. This will be Kohnner's chance to show he should've been on that team.
As far as keys to the series..
This will be a *much* tougher series than the Prince Albert one. Calgary plays a very good defensive game and are much more capable of putting the puck in the net than PA was. I didn't see the games in PA, but I'm guessing the key for Brandon will be upping their game sooner rather than later rather than holding the status quo. I can't see this being a problem. We'll need to be ready to at least split the first two games here.
As always, having home ice advantage will be huge as the series wears on.
I'm going to say Wheat Kings in a very exciting seven games.
