So I've decided to take up snowshoeing as a way to enjoy the outdoors during what's left of winter.  
 
For anyone that's snowshoed in Brandon & Westman, what have you found to be some of the better spots? The bike paths through the city are nicely cleared of snow, which would remove them as an option.  
 
Also for buying the shoes (new or used), how would you rate the usual retail suspects? I see Sport Chek's site has a single pair that look decent. Since this could very well be something I only do a few times, the idea is to not spend too much on anything too high end.
