here we go again with bringing an American music act in ( fall out boy ) to the grey cup , I guess Canadian music artists aren't good enough for the grand stage (grey cup) didn't know one song he performed.

I loved the half-time show. Thought Fall Out Boy did great. Have loved their music for years, and knew every song. The just won an award at the American Music Awards last week too. They've had a very big year. Having them on enticed my teens to actually watch the half-time show too, as its music they relate to as well.  
Doesn't matter to me having an American perform. Just my opinion.  
Oh and it's been an exciting game, hope the second half is just as great.

Sometimes promoters being in bands to gauge their crowd reaction for tours. In the case of the Grey Cup it will help determine whether or not the band has s good enough crowd reaction to come back to Winnipeg for a headlining concert.  
 
It is possible other bands could not make it, or they asked several. Fall Out Boy has no tours or shows right now and with Centuries I believe that was why they performed at the Grey Cup.

have a Canadian for the opening show, Dean Brody. I really don't care weather the half-time act is Canadian or American. As long as it's good and entertaining. And I think Fall Out Boy was good and entertaining. Few of their songs are played at Wheat King games.

was Imagine Dragons. This is only the 5th time in 103 Grey Cups that an American band did the Half-Time show.

The Grey Cup is all about Canada, being Canadian and getting together to celebrate the league and our game. Having an American act come in missed the point. There's a ton of Canadian musicians out there that could have used the exposure, but let's go with the bogus argument they were all booked, I would have rather had anyone of the 3 Canadian bands that played the MTS centre the night before vs an American band.

I understand the what the point was meant to be, but still personally have no problem with it. Maybe if everything to do with the game was Canadian, but as it is just under half of any CFL team are "imports". Each team can have a max of 44 players, which includes 3 qb's, and have no more than 20 international players. So that's almost half of each team that's not Canadian. Why can't we celebrate with artists from their countries to from time to time?  
Just my opinion.

 
the CFL and the grey cup are proud Canadian traditions , the grey cup halftime show can be a tremendous opportunity to promote Canadian music and spotlight Canadian talent , not American

U2 did half time at super bowl after 911. One of the most powerful half time shows I have ever seen. Last I checked they aren't American. I don't see a problem with non Canadians doing the grey cup.

Yep,and like Winnipeg doesn't have any home grown recording stars or groups.

Why not the outrage for Canadian artists playing the half-time at the Superbowl? Because no one cares. Fans of music don't really care what country the artists come from as long as its good. It's all well and good to have Canadian pride but music is an international language and to have an American band play at a Canadian event should actually be more flattering to Canadians than for the populous to have disdain for it.

I myself don't really care as long as its good music but to say that the Americans don't care about a Canadian band playing isn't actually true either check out this post from when it was in Detroit.

I don't think it matters what country Nickleback is from to facilitate outrage

isn't the Juno's either, it's entertainment and a sporting event. The organizers should be free to get who they think will put a good half-time show and get the crowd involved. They could of had Dean Brody as the half-time performer or some of the other big name Canadian country acts. But then there would be complaints about it being a country performer.  
 
No matter who they had, there would be complaints.

While typically it's been Canadian acts, there's nothing that says it must be. And it all started at the 1991 Grey Cup in Winnipeg.

Next year I expect to see you doing the half time show and entertaining the audience just as much as the Fall Out Boys did! I can hardly wait! *insert eye roll here*

If the Grey Cup was your business you would want to have the best entertainment to fill the stadium. Sorry to say currently Canada has really no rock artists other than Three Days Grace and Drake, Buble, Dion and Bieber are not doing this show. As for country music I really don't know what is cool and what isn't. The bottom line is fill the venue with an act that makes sense and who cares really if it is AC DC or U2 or Nickleback. The Super Bowl has had The Who, Stones, Paul McCartney and other Brit acts and nobody says a word. The Super Bowl this year in San Fran should be using Metallica as a local band but they are going back to Brittney Spears or Maroon 5.  
 
Winnipeg's biggest band could be The Weakerthans right now and 99 percent of you are saying who the hell is that. Because other than them I can't think of an act that is bigger when they tour outside of Manitoba.  
 
I can't tell you a Fall Out Boy song but they are for sure 1000 times more popular than the Weakerthans or Streetheart.

waste of money you could not hear the band any way and the fireworks while singing did nothing for us or anyone else around our seating area. My kids were jealous that I was seeing "fall out boy". I was thinking ok I can appear cool as I do know some of their music, but sound was not there and you could not see them either as they were blobs on a stage 100 feet in the air. mind you I was 150 feet in the air touching the roof of the place. I also heard a radio announcer mention how great of a show Dean Brody put on. He sang 2 songs on the back of half tons ohhh the special effects budget was blown there.  
I do not think any band would have pleased everyone. not sure why you need that extra but I guess the need to impress and charge big bucks for advertising wins over the fact there is a game on. It was a good game I will give both teams credit on that point.
