Today, there was group of 5 (4 were playing, one just riding with the group). My buddy and I were walking and catching up to you. There were no one ahead of you and no none behind us. Instead of rushing and skipping a hole, it is ok to let the group behind play through. This way, you and your family/friends can enjoy your afternoon without rushing.  
Hope this helps for those who doesn't know a bit of golf etiquette.

Actually, golf is meant to b played in foursomes and twosomes have no rights on the course. When i play and it is just me and my wife, we do not expect to be let through. If foursomes kept on letting twosomes play through, they would never get finished.

Tango it makes no sense not to let the twosome through as they will take less time than the foursome at each hole.  
Fondue was just simply stating they didn't have to skip a hole to get done faster. Sounds like he felt bad for them as they were unsure what golfers usually do. They could have just waited a few minutes instead.

is the main issue in question. not foursome vs twosome. however it is common and polite for foursomes to let twosomes go thru of there is room for them to move. if the course is packed and no room for the deuce to go then not much point. as long as slow groups let faster groups go thru all is good. it is also fine for slow twos and three who may be learning or slower to let 4 go thru. no point in being rushed and ruining the day.

While I certainly don't expect to get to play through if our pace of play is faster than those in front, it certainly is appreciated. Not letting someone play through when it will clearly speed up the group behind is a common courtesy on the course now, and can really put a damper on the group's day that is waiting for no reason.  
 
I've been on both sides - I've let more people play through more times than I can remember, and I've played through more times than I can remember. At the end of the day everyone's there to have a good time, if it's doable, let the quicker group play through. It doesn't ruin your day, and doesn't hold up theirs.

Real golfers would let you play through in that situation , party of 5 obviously inexperienced or don't golf much, the serious golfers out there are usually very respectful, enjoy the game , follow etiquette , say good game etc , it's okay to ask "would it be okay if we played through ?"

Recall playing any course where it's not mentioned somewhere either the clubhouse or scorecard that you should allow faster players go through.  
 
A peeve of mine (and my wife and I play doubles often) is a very busy course allowing doubles. They should be making foursomes. This also a great opportunity to meet new people with similar interests!

I have been there too - it's even worse when the twosome is two females! My friend and I played as a twosome the other day and four guys would not let us through - they had a chance on the first tee but rushed. Followed them for five holes before they realized we could actually play

I agree with RickR. When a course is busy, the starter should be making foursomes so that all the groups on the course travel at a similar pace. The course marshal should then keep on top of the pace of play and help/advise slower groups to pick up and proceed to the next tee if they fall out of position or to let the group behind then play through. Starters who just send out groups as they show up and marshals that just drive around the course saying 'Hi' are not helping.  
Of course now that the kids are out of school and everyone is heading out to their cabins, pressure on Brandon's golf courses is much less than it has been.

Correct. There were no one on the golf course except us and the 5somes ahead. This was a local 9 hole course. It wasn't busy. They saw us while searching for their balls in the rough. At this point, they could have waved us through, instead of making us wait for about 10mins on the tee box.  
I agree that a common theme at golf courses around here let two many twosomes play instead of getting twosomes to join with other twosomes on a busy day. It's just common sense.

I disagree that twosomes should have to pair up. On vacation in the U.S. At higher end golf resorts, we have been forced to pair up. Most times they were great people, but a few were not. I get this at resorts, but muni courses? No. I don't go to golf courses to meet people. As I stated before, if you are a twosome, don't expect to play through and don't force me to spend the day with strangers.

To be fair I don't think I've ever seen it busy enough to pair up twosomes around here.
